Today in Liepāja, in the 1st round match of the Latvian Highest league, with the scoreline of 1:0 we won the debutants “Grobiņas SC/LFS”. The only goal was scored by Marko Regža.
“Grobiņas SC/LFS” is the champion of last season’s 1st league and debuts this season in the highest league. There was a very good atmosphere in Liepāja and the stands were full.
We controlled the game in the first half and created a lot of scoring opportunities. In the 12th minute, Hrvoje Babec was close to score, but missed. In the 27th minute, we made a very good combination, at the end of which Marko Regža hit the ball into the goal from a close distance after a pass from Gauthier Mankendas (1:0). Two goals were canceled by the referee because of the offside. After the first half we were in the lead with 1:0.
At the beginning of the second half, after a shot by Eduards Daškėvičs, the ball hit the crossbar. The home team played disciplined in defense and did not allow a lot. In the final part of the game, the opponents had some set pieces, however, Rihards Matrevics did not have to make a big saves. Victory in the first game of the season with a scoreline of 1:0.
The next game is on March 16 at the Mežaparks Sports Village field against “Auda”. The kick-0ff at 15:00.
