In the match of the 3rd qualifying round of the UEFA Conference League, in an away match we lost 1:3 to “Beitar Jerusalem”, but we won 4:3 on aggregate and entered the “play-off” round, where we will meet “Sparta” from Prague.
We played the first game at Skonto Stadium perfectly, won 3:0 and laid good foundations for the victory in the sum of two games.
We played aggressively in the first minutes and soon created a good attack when Meissa Diop from the right side made a pass to Iago Siqueira, but he didn’t use the opportunity. The opponents responded strongly – an excellent shot from Omer Atzili (0:1). In the middle of the half, the opponents created a quality combination and scored the second goal (0:2). Active football continued for the rest of the half, but no goals were scored.
In the second half, we gave the opponents fewer opportunities, but in situations where “Beitar Jerusalem” had moments, just like in the first half, goalkeeper Krišjānis Zviedris saved our team. We had several chances to score, but we scored in the 86th minute. Joao Grimaldo played filigree near the penalty area, but a moment later Anthony Contreras hit the ball into the corner (1:2). We could have scored the second goal, but after Raivja Jurkovski’s shot, the opponents were saved by the goalkeeper. The nominal hosts scored a goal already during the additional time, but we won 4:3 on aggregate.
On Sunday, a game in the Latvian Cup, but already on Thursday, the UEFA Conference League “play-off” match away against “Sparta Prague”.
