On Saturday, in the 9th round of the Latvian Highest league in the Riga derby we lost to RFS with the scoreline of 1:2. Gauthier Mankenda scored the only goal for our team. With 5314 spectators, this was the most attended game in the Latvian championship in the last 20 years.
Before this game, our opponents were at the top of the tournament table, but we had one point less. The last six games in regular time had ended in a draw, but we won the Latvian Cup and the Supercup.
We started the game well, we played more with the ball, but in the 13th minute the opposing defender Petr Mareš scored a goal with a fantastic shot (0:1). After the visitors’ goal, the game did not change significantly, but we didn’t have very good moments either. After the first half, we were trailing 0:1.
We also started the second half actively, and in the 56th minute Gauthier Mankenda scored a goal – 1:1. We had the initiative, we attacked, but we didn’t score the second goal. In the 80th minute, our former striker Darko Lemajić scored a header (1:2). Loss in the Riga derby.
The next game is already on Thursday at the Skonto Stadium against “Grobinas SC/LFS”.
