Tonight in 30th round game of the Latvian Highest league at the Skonto Stadium, we defeated “Valmiera” with a scoreline of 1:0. The only goal was scored by Ivan Erquiaga. On September 23, the semi-final of the Latvian Cup will be played against RFS.
Against the Valmiera team this season, we had earned only two points in three games – in the first game we lost away from home with 1:2, in the second game in Riga we drew 2:2, and in the third match we drew again – 2:2.
In the first half of the game, we demonstrated a quality performance, and in the 15th minute, after a beautiful combination, Ivan Erquiaga scored – 1:0. We controlled the game but did not score the second goal. At the end of the half, after our mistake, the opponents had a chance, but they couldn’t take it. After the first half we were in the lead with 1:0.
The second half of the game was much more difficult for us. Goalkeeper Nils Puriņš saved our team several times during the half-time. We didn’t have very good moments. With strong team character, we were able to hold on and win 1:0 in the end.
On September 23, we will play against RFS in the semi-finals of the Latvian Cup.
