On Monday in the 31st round of the Latvian Highest league, we earned three important points away from home against “Daugavpils” – 1:0. The only goal for our team was scored by Joao Grimaldo.
Against “Daugavpils” this year, we had only won four of the maximum nine points – 1:2, 1:0, 1:1.
There are never easy games in Daugavpils, and this one also was not. In the first half of the game, we controlled the ball more, but the opponents responded with sharp counterattacks. Overall, there were no very good scoring opportunities in the first half of the game – 0:0.
In the 53rd minute, we were the ones who scored a goal on a counterattack. After a corner kick from the opponents, the ball was won by Gauthier Mankenda, who ran at high speed towards the opponents’ goal, made an excellent pass into the opponents’ penalty area, and there Joao Grimaldo played a filigree – 1:0. “Daugavpils” at times put pressure on our goal, but with joint efforts we kept our goal untaken – a victory with 1:0.
